Learn seven proven approaches for writing a dynamic play script – whether you want to write plays that are realistic, non-realistic, comedic, fantastical, based on a true story or whatever – from Robert St. John, author of “Pulling a Playwright Out of a Hat.” And if you’re a writing teacher, the workshop will also cover surefire methods for teaching your students how to write plays that win awards and attract scholarship offers.

Robert St. John
Robert St. John (M.F.A., University of Oregon) has been teaching and writing original plays with students in middle and high school since 1990. In 2014, he won a national teaching award and grant from the American Alliance for Theater and Education (AATE). He helped organize multiple student play writing festivals in Hawai’i with The Actors’ Group, PlayBuilders Hawaiʻi and Honolulu Theater for Youth. He recently published a book on how to teach playwriting, “Pulling a Playwright Out of a Hat,” as well as a playwriting card game (Play Craft) and 21 short plays about the relationship between humans and dogs.
